SUMMARY: The Commonwealth of Kentucky, as part of the national settlement with manufacturers and distributors of prescription opioids, has received $478 million in compensation to help alleviate the damage caused by the irresponsible marketing and distribution of prescription opioids. Hopkins County is slated to receive $1.2 million of this settlement over a 15-year period. The first disbursement of those funds has been made, totaling $250,621. Annual payments of between $42,000 and $79,000 will be made to the county between 2023 and 2038. The Hopkins County Fiscal Court has assembled a committee with a broad range of expertise to administer these funds.
The Committee has designated the majority of those funds to be awarded to community organizations through a grant process, which is the purpose of this application.
WHO MAY APPLY: Applicants are restricted to entities or individuals active in Hopkins County and all funds must be expended for activities conducted in Hopkins County dedicated towards the prevention of opioid use or the treatment of those affected by opioid addiction.
